My SARAHS

My SARAHS.

A belated Valentine to "my" Sarahs...two new hat patterns:

SARAH is a knit hat filled with yummy cables that twist all the way to the top.
Squish!
Yarn: Knitpicks Wool of the Andes Superwash Bulky
Colorway: Mineral Heather
Yarn: Knitpicks Wool of the Andes Superwash Bulky
Colorway: Dove Heather

Where would I be without you, my little sister who sometimes acts like the big sister? SARAH, I am so proud to be your sister and so happy that you're happy. This hat is named after you. Love you.

SARAHJAY is a ribbed hat that knits up quickly with chunky yarn and utilizes two needle sizes to ensure a great cozy fit. It is a hat that "gets you". Haha.
Yarn: Knitpicks Brava Bulky
Colorway: Fairy Tale

SARAHJAY. Who knew all those letter-writing, angst filled years ago what a journey our friendship would take together. I may not see you for months/years but you're still my "BFF".
What an amazing woman you have become. Love you, mama!

BECCA

I've been in a fog for, well, months really. Even the holidays went by fairly unceremoniously due to sickness of one family member or another.

Now it's time to get healthy, get out of the funk, and be productive!

Speaking of productive, here is Becca, my latest hat pattern.
yarn: Knitpicks Wool of the Andes
colorway: Icicle Heather

This hat ("toque" if you live north of he-ah) is an easy knit that requires little effort to achieve great looking results.

Becca, the happy Northerner of Nook, is a knitty pal and I'm so glad our paths crossed many moons ago.

Dear Becca,
You are a great listener, fun and funny, not to mention have "mad knitting skillz". You're an amazing mama to that awesome little man! I truly feel that we are kindred spirits and am lucky to have met you! Can't wait to knit (and chow down) with you! So many exclamation points!
Thank you for your friendship! xo

yarn: Cascade 220 worsted
colorway: Ruby
Of course I had a most excellent helper to get it looking just right!

Here is the link to the FREE pattern on the Ravelry website.
Happy Knitting!

New Pattern: Vineyard

Good evening, all!

I'm happy to share my new pattern with you: Vineyard.
The cabley goodness was inspired by the connectivity and life within vines.
Sample yarn: Universal Yarns Deluxe Worsted
Colorway: Ice Flow
(leftover from my Antrorse pullover)

The unique cables are surprisingly easy to work, with only a few repeats.
Hooray!
I hope you enjoy it!
(Thanks again to Martha for being such a good sport!)
A BIG shout-out to Becca my bud for proofing the pattern despite her busy bee-ness.
Thanks for the confidence boost. Mwah.
Cheese!

simple

The Simple Collection is a learn-to-knit series of *free* patterns by Tin Can Knits. Made up of 8 patterns utilizing garter, rib and stockinette stitches, these patterns are simple and beautiful, wide-ranging and fun to knit for beginners and not-so-beginners (like me).
This is the "Barley" hat from the collection.
I knit it to be less slouchy as I'm finding I prefer my hats to be.
garter, stockinette, 1x1 rib.
Yarn: Plymouth DK merino superwash. Squish!
Also from the Simple Collection, this good-lookin' pullover:
Flax pullovers for the whole family!

I'm finally knitting D a sweater! It's only taken me ten years to cast on! ha!
I love the garter panels on the sleeves and the simple shape. Just right for D.
It's also the perfect project to knit for the Big Bang Theory KAL,
going on right now in the luvinthemommyhood group on Ravelry.
here's my "WIP Wednesday" progress shot.

Regina

As a mom, there are definitely days where you feel a little "blah". We'll leave it at that.
Enter the Regina hat.
Guaranteed to take away the blahs leaving you with a little "swoosh" in your step.
The perfect hat for pining away in a castle tower, waiting for Prince Charming.
bahaha.
There were so many awesome hats popping up in the Downton Abbey KAL thread and my shawlette is slow-going, so I cast on!
This was such a quick knit, but the clever construction and design details make this so fun to make and wear. I knit it using Vintage Chunky in charcoal and DK Merino Style by Knitpicks in teal.
Both were in my stash...woot woot!
the fan detail is stitched on after blocking. I love the Art Deco feel of this element.
The pattern is a *free!* pattern by Carina Spencer and can be found here.

The best thing about this pattern's construction is that you can truly use any yarn, which is awesome for stash-busting.  My head is swimming with all the possible combinations!
Can't wait to knit another one!

Rosebud and more minnis

It is so nice to be able to knit a pattern using the yarn it was designed for. I have been coveting this hat pattern for quite some time and I can't believe it's finally mine! I love each and every one of Jared Flood's patterns and this is no exception. So well-written and a breeze to knit.
Rosebud by Jared Flood for Brooklyn Tweed
Yarn: Shelter in Colorway thistle
The yarn felt a little "crunchy" while I was knitting but it softened up nicely with blocking. I appreciate that the yarn has a little heft to it because it helps to maintain the integrity of the cable and the shape of the hat.

shmoosy cable goodness
love all the garter stitch.
Reminder note for all those purl-haters out there, every other round is purled because it is knit in the round. Just sayin'.
me squealing with delight (on the inside) because I love.this.hat.so.much.
As anyone with more than one child knows, you often times have to buy two of everything. Especially in the case of flowery little slippers. So, here are the mini-mini's little slippers, in baby pink.

Hats and Mitts

I figured I should get at least one post in before the month ends!

Newest resolution, try to write at least 3 posts a week. I know if I commit to "every day" it will become really old really fast. That's just me.

Just because I haven't been writing doesn't mean I haven't been knitting! the Warm Up to Winter KAL hosted by luvinthemommyhood and nook has given me a great excuse to dig into my yarn stash and go hat and mitt crazy:

 Camp Out Mitts
 Habitat
 Capucine

 Sucky thumb mitts
Bella's Mittens (inspired by Twilight...eek!)

Shannon from luvinthemommyhood also wrote a great cowl pattern, the Mallory Cowl, and I just had to whip one up. I ended up giving it away to a good friend, but here's a pic of its squishy goodness...

Mallory cowl
The KAL is for hats and mitts, but I've finished other scarves and cowls as well. Here are two of my favorites:

bzzzz...

Jill's simple "Sewing for Me" post on Homemade by Jill made me realize how long it had been since I sewed/made something for myself, so I made this hat using the Berroco Phannie pattern:

I also wanted to create a Spring Beanie to list in the shop. Spring inspiration - bumblebees! Here's my interpretation of nature's fat little friend:
